The variety of secondary school courses is designed to prepare students for university and accommodate different learning styles. The adoption of both the Canadian and American systems provide flexibility for students in grade 9 to choose between the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or the American High School Diploma program, giving them a competitive advantage in the global education system. Curriculum Overview

  • American Curriculum Overview

    Welcome to the American section of Flexi Academy! Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education that prepares them for success in college and beyond. Here’s an overview of what students can expect to learn in each grade level:

  • Grade 1 to Grade 3

    Our early elementary curriculum focuses on developing foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. Students will learn to read and write, as well as develop their math skills through hands-on activities and games. They will also explore science and social studies topics through engaging lessons and projects.

  • Grades 4 and 5

    In the upper elementary grades, students will continue to develop their literacy and numeracy skills, but will also delve deeper into science and social studies topics. Our curriculum includes units on earth and space science, life science, and physical science, as well as history and geography topics. Students will also begin to learn about coding and computer science.

  • Grade 6 to Grade 8

    Our middle school curriculum focuses on preparing students for high school and beyond. Students will continue to develop their literacy and numeracy skills, but will also be challenged with more advanced coursework in science and social studies. Our science curriculum includes units in physics, chemistry, and biology, while our social studies curriculum covers topics such as ancient civilizations, world history, and American history. Students will also have the opportunity to explore elective courses in areas such as art, music, and technology.

  • Grade 9 to Grade 12

    Our high school curriculum is designed to prepare students for college and beyond. Students will take a variety of courses across different subject areas, including English, math, science, social studies, and world languages. We offer a wide range of elective courses, including advanced courses in math and science, as well as courses in business, technology, and the arts.

    Statistics and Probability: Students will develop the skills to use data to make informed decisions and draw conclusions.

  • Science Standards

    Physical Science: Students will develop the skills to understand the properties of matter and energy and the interactions between them.

    Life Science: Students will develop the skills to understand the structures and functions of living things and the relationships between them.

    Earth and Space Science: Students will develop the skills to understand the properties of Earth and its place in the universe.

    Engineering, Technology, and Applications of Science: Students will develop the skills to apply scientific principles to solve real-world problems.

  • Social Studies Standards

    Civics: Students will develop the skills to understand how government works, and their roles and responsibilities as citizens.

    Economics: Students will develop the skills to understand how the economy works, and the role of individuals and businesses in it.

    Geography: Students will develop the skills to understand the physical and cultural characteristics of places and regions.

    History: Students will develop the skills to understand the past and its impact on the present, and to analyze primary and secondary sources.

Canadian Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

  • Grade 9

    In grade 9, students will take courses in English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our English curriculum focuses on developing students’ reading, writing, and communication skills. In math, students will study algebra, geometry, and number theory. Our science curriculum covers topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics. In social studies, students will learn about geography, history, and economics.

  • Grade 10

    In grade 10, students will continue to take courses in English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our English curriculum emphasizes literary analysis and essay writing. In math, students will study advanced algebra and geometry, as well as trigonometry. Our science curriculum covers topics such as environmental science and earth science. In social studies, students will learn about Canadian history and geography.

  • Grade 11

    In grade 11, students will have more flexibility in choosing their courses. They will continue to take courses in English and mathematics and will have the option to take courses in science, social studies, and the arts. Our English curriculum focuses on critical analysis and research writing. In math, students will study calculus and vectors. Our science curriculum covers topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics. In social studies, students will have the opportunity to explore topics such as law, politics, and world religions.

  • Grade 12

    In grade 12, students will have even more flexibility in choosing their courses. They will continue to take courses in English and may choose to take courses in mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, or other subject areas. Our English curriculum focuses on literary theory and independent research. In math, students will study advanced calculus and other advanced topics. Our science curriculum covers topics such as advanced biology, chemistry, and physics. In social studies, students will have the opportunity to explore advanced topics in history, geography, and politics.
